DriveMate privacy policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026. DriveMate is provided by Origami Studio (ABN 49 873 003 778) ("we", "us"). This policy covers the DriveMate app and web dashboard and follows the Australian Privacy Principles and, for people in New Zealand, the information privacy principles of the Privacy Act 2020.
In short
DriveMate records your drives so you have the vehicle records you need at tax time. Your information is used for that and nothing else. We don't sell it, we don't use it for advertising, and DriveMate has no advertising trackers.
What we collect
Trips. When and where each drive starts and ends, its route and its distance. Location and motion activity are used to recognise and record your drives; you can turn them off and add trips by hand.
What you enter. Trip categories, purposes and notes; your vehicles and odometer readings, including photos you take of the odometer; car expenses and photos of their receipts (read on your phone to fill in the amount and date); saved places; and record periods.
Account. If you create one (it's optional): your email address, or your Apple or Google sign-in identifier and the name it shares, and your preferences such as units and time zone.
Subscription. Your subscription status. Payments are handled by Apple or our payment processor; we never see your card details.
Diagnostics. Crash and performance reports stay on your phone unless you choose to share them.
Problem reports. If you report a problem with a trip, we see the copy you choose to send (its times, distance, stops and route, but not its addresses, places or purpose) for up to 30 days, or until you withdraw it.
How we use it
To record, show and classify your trips; to calculate distances, odometer readings and business use; to create the reports you export; to keep the app and the dashboard up to date with each other; to provide your subscription; and to help when you contact us.
Where it's kept and who sees it
Without an account, your trips stay on your phone. With an account, they are stored in Australia, including for people in New Zealand, and encrypted in transit and at rest.
We use service providers for hosting, mapping, sign-in and payments, each limited to what it needs to provide its service. Some of them process data outside Australia, including in the United States. We don't share your information with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Your choices
You can pause trip detection, set off hours, or turn off location access at any time. You can edit or delete any trip, vehicle, place or reading. You can download all your data, free, in the app (Settings › Privacy and data) or on the dashboard (Settings › Your data). And you can delete your account: your records are removed from our servers within 30 days, and from backups within a further 30 days.
How long we keep it
Tax authorities usually ask you to keep vehicle records for five years, so we keep yours for as long as you have an account and delete them when you delete it. Records kept only on your phone are removed when you delete the app.
Children
DriveMate is not intended for anyone under 16.
Access, correction and complaints
To ask for the information we hold about you, or to correct it, email support@trydrivemate.com. We respond to complaints within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au, or in New Zealand the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
